Epimedium koreanum, commonly known as Korean Barrenwort or Korean Fairy Wings, is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the forest floors and shaded rock outcrops in Korea, Japan and parts of China. It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height and width of 1-1.5 feet (0.3-0.5 meters). The plant features delicate, heart-shaped leaves and produces sprays of small, intricate flowers that are most commonly pink or white, blooming profusely in the spring. The flowers are quite showy due to their unique shape and the contrast with the foliage. In addition to its attractive flowers, Epimedium koreanum is valued for its foliage, which can provide ground cover and is often used in woodland gardens, shade gardens, and as a border plant.

Korean Barrenwort thrives in part shade to full shade, preferring well-drained soils rich in organic matter, such as clay or loam. It requires consistent moisture but is tolerant of a range of water conditions from low to medium. This plant is appreciated for its ease of maintenance and its ability to spread slowly, forming a dense mat that can suppress weeds. While it is generally pest and disease resistant, it can occasionally suffer from leaf spot or rust.
