The inflorescences are open panicles with spikelets that bear a silvery sheen, particularly attractive when they catch the light. Flowering typically occurs in the warmer months, and while the flowers are not particularly showy, they add a subtle beauty to the grass’s overall appearance.

Silky bluegrass is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor soils, making it a suitable choice for low-maintenance areas, erosion control, and as forage in pastures. It is often used in native landscaping projects and as an ornamental grass in gardens for its fine-textured foliage and graceful form. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to light shade and requires well-drained soils.
