Deutzia scabra, commonly known as Fuzzy Pride-Of-Rochester, is a deciduous shrub native to the forest edges and open woodlands of Japan. It typically grows to a height of 1-2 meters and is known for its rough, peeling bark and dense, fountain-like form. From May to July, it produces showy panicles of white flowers that are attractive to pollinators. The cultivar ’Candidissima’ features double flowers and can reach up to 4 meters (13 feet) in height, while ’Codsall Pink’ is notable for its pink double flowers. Both cultivars have received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit for their ornamental qualities.
