Coleus comosus, synonym Plectranthus ornatus and sometimes sold as "Coleus canina," is a perennial herb native to open woodlands and scrub areas in eastern Africa, including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. It is a member of the Lamiaceae family, known for its aromatic foliage and ornamental value. Coleus comosus typically grows to a height of 24-36 inches (60-90 cm) with a similar spread, and it features soft, semi-succulent stems and green leaves with a scalloped edge. The leaves emit an odor when brushed against, which is said to deter cats and dogs, hence the nickname "Scaredy Cat Plant." The small, blue to mauve flowers are not particularly showy and bloom in late summer to fall.

Coleus comosus is valued for its easy maintenance and aromatic foliage, which can add a sensory aspect to gardens. It is commonly used in border planting, as ground cover, or in containers. This plant thrives in part shade to full sun, prefers well-draining soil, and requires regular watering, especially in hotter climates. While it is not known for any significant disease problems, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered.
