Summary
Carlowrightia parviflora, commonly known as Smallflower Wrightwort, is a semi-deciduous perennial subshrub or herb native to the semi-arid regions of Texas and northern Mexico, where it thrives in rocky limestone soils, often in the shelter of larger shrubs or trees. It typically grows to a height and width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters), forming a compact mound of slender, erect stems. The plant is characterized by its small, tubular purple flowers that bloom profusely from late fall through spring, providing a long season of visual interest. The flowers, while not overly showy, are attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Smallflower Wrightwort is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in challenging growing conditions, making it a suitable choice for xeriscaping and rock gardens. It is also used in border plantings and as a filler in mixed beds, where its delicate flowers can be appreciated up close. This plant prefers full sun to part shade and is adaptable to a range of soil types, provided they have good drainage. It is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal supplemental watering once established. While generally pest-free, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
