Summary
Camellia saluenensis, commonly known as Saluen Camellia, is an evergreen shrub native to the forests of South-Central China, particularly in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. It typically grows to a height of 6-12 feet (1.8-3.7 meters) and a width of 6-10 feet (1.8-3 meters). The plant has a dense, upright form with glossy, dark green leaves that provide year-round interest. Saluen Camellia is renowned for its profusion of fragrant, pink flowers that bloom in early to mid-spring, adding a splash of color to the garden when few other shrubs are in flower.
Saluen Camellia is valued for its ornamental flowers and evergreen foliage, which make it an excellent choice for use in shaded borders, woodland gardens, and as a specimen plant. It is also suitable for creating privacy screens or hedges. This camellia prefers acidic, well-drained soil and requires consistent moisture, though it is somewhat drought-tolerant once established. It thrives in part shade, avoiding the harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves. While generally pest-resistant, it can be susceptible to camellia petal blight and should be monitored for signs of this disease.CC BY-SA 4.0
