Callicarpa giraldii, commonly known as Bodinier’s Beautyberry, is a deciduous shrub native to a range of habitats in Southeastern Asia and China, including forest margins, open woodlands, and thickets. It typically grows to a height and width of 4-6 feet (1.2-1.8 meters), featuring a dense, rounded form. The shrub is notable for its small, clustered purple flowers that bloom in summer, followed by striking metallic purple berries in the fall, which persist into winter and are a highlight in the garden.

Bodinier’s Beautyberry is valued for its vibrant fruit display, which can add a splash of color to the landscape when many other plants have ceased blooming. It is often used in ornamental plantings, as a border shrub, or for naturalizing in informal areas. This beautyberry prefers well-drained soil, tolerates a range of soil types, and requires moderate watering. While it thrives in full sun or part shade, berry production is best with more sunlight.
