Summary
Bouteloua pectinata, commonly known as Tall Grama, is a deciduous perennial grass native to the prairies and open woodlands of the central and southern Great Plains, including Oklahoma and Texas. It typically grows to a height of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters) and can spread to about 3 feet (0.9 meters) wide. This grass has a clumping form with narrow, linear leaves and produces delicate, comb-like flower spikes in late summer to early fall. The flowers are not particularly showy, but they add a fine texture to the landscape.
Tall Grama is valued for its drought tolerance and its ability to thrive in tough conditions, making it an excellent choice for naturalistic plantings and restoration projects.
