Beesia calthifolia, commonly known as Ginger Leaf False Bugbane, is a deciduous perennial herb native to the understory of moist, temperate forests in Central and Southwestern China. It typically grows to a height and width of 0.7-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters), forming a low, clumping mound. The plant features heart-shaped, glossy leaves that provide a lush, groundcover effect. In spring, it produces small, white, star-shaped flowers that are modest in appearance but add a delicate charm to the foliage. The flowers are followed by inconspicuous fruit.

Ginger Leaf False Bugbane is valued for its attractive foliage and its ability to thrive in shady garden spots where other plants might struggle. It is often used in woodland gardens, shade gardens, and as an understory plant in shaded borders. This plant prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It requires full to partial shade and should be protected from intense afternoon sun. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to slugs and snails, which may damage the leaves.
