Acer sino-oblongum, commonly known as South China Maple, is an evergreen tree native to the subtropical broadleaf forests of southern China, including Guangdong Province and Hong Kong. It typically grows to a height of up to 23 feet (7 meters). The South China Maple is characterized by its elliptical, waxy, unlobed, and untoothed leaves which contribute to a dense and lush canopy. This species is not commonly known for showy flowers, but it does produce inconspicuous yellowish flowers followed by winged samaras that are typical of maples.

In cultivation, Acer sino-oblongum is valued for its evergreen foliage, which provides year-round interest and greenery. It can be used in urban landscapes, private gardens, and as a specimen tree. This maple prefers well-drained, fertile soils and can tolerate a range of light conditions from full sun to partial shade. While it is not widely available in the horticultural trade, it can be a unique addition to a collection of rare or unusual trees.
