Summary

Acacia cheelii, commonly known as Motherumbah, is an evergreen tree endemic to the dry sclerophyll forests and woodlands of New South Wales, Australia. It can grow up to 10 meters (33 feet) tall and has a slender form with a distinctive whitish-grayish coating on its branches. The bark of Motherumbah is ribbony or flaky and exhibits a red-brown to brownish color, which can add textural interest in a garden setting. From August to late October, it produces an abundance of golden flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators.

Motherumbah is valued for its drought tolerance and vibrant golden blooms, making it a suitable choice for xeriscaping and as a feature plant in water-wise gardens. It thrives in full sun and requires minimal water once established, preferring well-drained soils. While it is not commonly used outside of its native range, it can be a striking addition to gardens in similar climates. Care should be taken when planting Motherumbah, as it can be sensitive to root disturbance.CC BY-SA 4.0
